Podcasts

Podcasts were a lot easier to use than I thought! I'm not sure if I would actually use podcast in my classroom but it was fun to learn how to use. I actually have a group project due in late November and I have to interview a bilingual person and get certain clips of them talking. So I am going to use the programs that we learned about in class today and the programs that I have downloaded onto my computer because they will really come in handy with my project! I'm sure that I will have to use to at another point in my college career so it was useful to learn how to do. In the future, in my classroom I might use podcasts just to "spice things up" every once in a while but I don't think that I will make regular use of them. Maybe in my classroom I will use it if students are unsure of words in their readings and the pronunciation of certain words that may be hard for them to pronounce. I may use it to communicate to the students parents, or with a substitute teacher if needed. If I did certain lesson plans on the pronunciation of words and learning spelling then I could use it in the classroom with groups. Other than that reason I am not sure of ways that I would use podcasts in my classroom, but I also have many many years to think about it. I really do think that they are fun to use, but right now I am unsure on how I will personally use it in my classroom. But as of the rest of my college career, if I ever need to interview anyone for a project or for a class, I will definitely use what I learned in class today.

  1. Jenna, using them for your personal classes right now is a good idea! That is even a good way to make a presentation more exciting. I feel as though that could maybe be something that your students could do for a class project or something just so they get the hang of different technologies. Your idea about communicating with the parents would be a very good idea! It would be almost like what Tae did for us to give us feedback.

  2. yeah, i was thinking of how you could use podcasts in the classroom. I thought you could maybe show the kids how to do it and have them make like some kind of radioshow project, or record a poem, or song lyrics or something, maybe even a speech. I think it would help with the speaking aspect of the GLECs that's required and challenge them to become a lively radio personality. I think you could also use it in centers or groups, you could record your voice and give verbal instructions, or have them read along, anything. I think that would be pretty cool.

  3. I like the idea of using the podcast as a way to help students with pronunciation. I am a TESOL minor so I will be working with a lot of English as a Second Language students so having a pronunciation tool would be very helpful for when they were at home doing their homework. Some of their families might not even speak English so it would be hard to practice the language outside the classroom if there was no reference of correct pronunciation.

I think that this idea is something that I will definitely incorporate into my classroom with ESL students as at home resource.
